Despite the tragedy that Academy award winning actress Jennifer Hudson suffered during the end of 2008 when she lost her mother, brother and nephew when they were murdered in their Chicago home, she will be making her first public appearance this month when she performs at President-elect Barack Obama's presidential inauguration on January 20.

The NY Post reports that while Hudson is still mourning the deaths of her closest family members, she is summoning up the strength to perform for President Obama. Hudson has been a major supporter of the soon-to-be-President. She previously graced him with her performance at the Democratic National Convention during the summer.

We know that the tragedy has taken a toll on Hudson, but it would be amazing to see her perform at the inauguration. But if she can't, we will understand that too.

Despite all the separation rumors swirling around Usher and his wife Tameka Foster-Raymond, it seems like the couple are still going in it for the long haul.

Usher and Tameka rang in the new year together in Las Vegas at Usher's New Year's Eve party at The Bank Nightclub at the Bellagio.

The couple recently celebrated the birth of their second son, Naviyd Ely Raymond, earlier last month. And I must say that Tameka has stepped her game up and is looking nice in the pictures.

Fairy Godmother Oprah Winfrey continues to bless others with her giving heart. Oprah recently donated a nice gift to a struggling private school here in Atlanta. The innovative private institution is located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlanta. The staff has been struggling just to get by. They barely stayed above water by begging for monetary donations from different sources.

That is, until Ms. Oprah Winfrey stepped in to save the day. NY Daily News reports that Oprah gave the school an unexpected surprise with a donation of $365,000.

“We teach school all day and fund-raise at night,” said Ron Clark, who finds private donors to pay most of the $14,000 annual tuition for each student. “To have an unsolicited gift come like that is incredible.”

“Everything they learn is enhanced because of the teachers’ dedication and creativity,” said a tearful Gloria Nesmith, whose son, Cameron, is a fifth-grader at the academy." And Oprah noticed. I’m just overwhelmed.”

It is definitely a blessing from God to bless Oprah to bless the lives of others. This is such a heartwarming story to start off the new year. Hopefully, there are many more to come.

Hollywood's newly engaged couple Eva Pigford and Lance Gross talk to Essence magazine about the details of their fresh engagement. The couple was vacationing with their families during the Christmas holidays when Lance popped the question on Christmas Eve.

“I was in a complete state of shock!” the 24-year-old Los Angeles native tells ESSENCE. “I cried. It was totally unexpected. I’m still in shock. I could not even sleep because I was afraid that I might wake up from the most beautiful dream ever.”
“Eva’s mouth went from closed to on the floor!” jokes Gross, 27, a Howard University alum. “She asked, ‘Baby, is this real? Baby, are you playing with me?’ Then she said, ‘Forever and always: Yes, Yes, Yes!’ And jumped up and hugged me, crying, and then she did her happy dance!”

According to recent reports, actress Taraji P. Henson, who has starred in several well known movies throughout her career is currently being praised for her performance in the new Brad Pitt film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She plays Pitt's character's mother in the movie. Henson is known for her portrayal as Yvette in the critically-acclaimed film, Baby Boy, where she starred along withTyrese Gibson, she also starred in Talk To Me, alongside Don Cheadle, and more recently, she was in the Tyler Perry film, The Family That Preys, starring award-winning actresses Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates.

Henson was recently asked how she felt about the Oscar talk, and she just brushed it off. She said that she's no stranget to Oscar buzz. Hollywood was talking several years ago about a potential win when Henson portrayed the character Yvette in Baby Boy. So she's not going to get herself worked up over it this time. She says that if it happens, it happens and she will definitely be grateful, but she's leaving it all up to the Man upstairs.

Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon decided to spend Christmas this year in the lovely Aspen, Colorado. They certainly got a white Christmas there in as the color-coordinated couple went skiing and shopping in the city. And Mariah was definitely rocking the Christian Dior ski boots. Reports says that Cannon purchased a $1.5 million chalet for his wife and that is where they spent their vacation.

Singer/dancer/actress Eartha Kitt passed away yesterday after her long bout with colon cancer. Kitt was 81.

Eartha Kitt was known in her career as one of the sexiest sought-after women of her time. Kitt was mainly known for her role as "Catwoman" on the 1960s series, Batman. She replaced actress Julie Newmar from 1967-1968.

In the span of her six-decades long career, Eartha won 2 Emmy awards and was nominated for several Tony awards.

Eartha Kitt and her signature "purrrr" will be truly missed.

Hello all. I hope that you guys had a great Christmas. I was one of those last minute Christmas shoppers this year. And that's not me. But, I was late as hell getting the gifts I needed to. I don't know about where you were, but the traffic here in Atlanta was CRAZY. I mean you had to literally drive around for almost an hour to find a parking space in most of the shopping malls here on Christmas eve. It was mad bananas. But I got through it and I got most of the things I wanted for my family.

I'm just happy that the whole hustle and bustle of the Christmas holiday is over and done with. Now, I'm looking forward to the new year. Because I'm ready to shine in 2009. LOL!

President-elect Barack Obama and the fam are currently vacationing in Hawaii and the paps happened to get a shot of Obama with his shirt off. Not half bad, I might add.

The Obamas rented out a five-bedroom mansion near the beach to spend their Christmas vacation before Obama is sworn into office on January 20th.

It's good to see him taking out some time for himself, because the man has definitely been working hard on getting everything set up with his cabinet among other things as he makes his transition to the White House.

Yes, a movie about the remarkable Aaliyah is set to hit the big screen soon. Aaliyah was a superstar who touched the lives of many with her magical talents. The singer faced an untimely death in 2001 when her plane went down as she was leaving the Bahamas after a videotaping of her hit single, "Rock The Boat".

Now, the much-anticipated biopic of Aaliyah's life is definitely in the works. The movie will chronicle the life of the star from the beginning of her life until 2001. Newcomer Keisha Chante will play Aaliyah. According to many reports, the ink is certainly dry on the contract. Keisha Chante is a Canadian born R&B singer who released her first album back in 2006 titled 2U. The movie, which is currently untitled, is scheduled to hit the big screen mid-2009.

Originally, actress Meagan Goode thought that she was going to get the part to play the singer, but I guess the movie studio had a different vision. Nevertheless, I hope that the movie turns out great. Aaliyah was one of my favorite singers. She is most definitely missed.

Time magazine has named President-elect Barack Obama as "Person of the Year". We didn't need a flashlight to see this one coming.

The magazine says Mr. Obama has risen to "dominate the public sphere" in his short time on the national scene. It says the incoming president overcame "centuries of the social pecking order" to become the first African-American elected to the White House.

Obama has definitely been a major player in 2008.

From the time he stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial to tell the country that he was in the running to be the next President of the United States until he walked out on that stage in Chicago's Grant Park on November 4th, with an audience of thousands, to give his acceptance speech as the newly-elected President of the United States, Barack Obama has captured the minds and hearts of many. Whether you love him or hate him, he's here and he's bringing about the "Change", for the American people, that he talked about throughout his campaign.

Obama has soared many heights to reach his ultimate goal. I can't wait to see what President-elect has in store for our country. His name means "the chosen one". And I can't think of a better choice than Barack "Yes We Can" Obama.
